The movie creators could probably have spent most of the storyline within this world and would have made a memorable film. I couldn't help thinking though that the character still lacks something though. Eager to prove he's up to date, Del Toro name drops Youtube as the website tracks our hero's destructive city-wide exploits. Luckily, Del Toro collaborated with Mike Mignola (creator of Hellboy comics), IDT Entertainment and others on two animated films, "Hellboy Sword of Storms" (2006) and "Hellboy Blood & Iron" (2007). wlwmanifest.xml They bicker like an old couple. They fought one of the dragons in an island where they took sanctuary after their plane crashed into the ocean. Their decision to separate Hellboy from Abe and Liz tho' is workable. As expected, Professor Broom confronted the countess, but not before the countess was able to send Hellboy to her goddess, Hecates. wlwmanifest.xml The thing is, it's all a little too cheesey and tongue in cheek for me. For the non-comic book readers, this is the first time we get a feel of Liz's awesome power as a pyro as she was forced to confront the dragon on the island.

Abe's and Liz's airplane was downed by a lightning bolt as they flew to Japan in order to investigate Hellboy's sudden disappearance. Not the Abe Sapien I remember in Hellboy the movie. In the cartoons, Abe is a frontline fighter, not simply a scout, though he ends up getting beat up quite a bit. wlwmanifest.xml There were loose strings between the countess, her servant who was a former village priest, and Professor Broom.. It's just not enough though. A third could be the making of this series, but the second one doesn't quite cut it all the way.

It was Hecates who transformed the countess into a vampire and she wanted Hellboy to join her or kill him if he refused. Why? Faced with recent efforts from Marvel, this doesn't fare too well. wlwmanifest.xml He's come a long way from his days in Bros, huh? Like Rocky Balboa, Hellboy has become the reluctant hero turned celebrity. Of course, Hellboy refused and as he made his way back to the mansion, Hecates chased him for a final, bonecrushing showdown. The two films take on very different tones, one of the fantastic, the other of the gothic. Better use of music, atmosphere and more intense action sequences make for a lively start to the picture, improving on the original somewhat. wlwmanifest.xml Maybe the director wants to forge a different angle on the superhero genre. But, unlike Hancock, Hellboy doesn't need his own PR team just yet.
